I Couldn't Think of Anywhere Else to Post This...

Recently I have come across this list of "Ten Questions to Ask Your Biology Teacher". It's being distributed by creationists (mostly in the US), and even though professional biologists have refuted these claims (http://pharyngula.org/index/weblog/comments/ten_questions_to_ask_your_biology_teacher/), my goal was to show that you don't have to be a biology teacher or even a professional biologist to do so.
(Keep in mind that I did not read the text of that above link until AFTER I wrote this, and in fact I urge to compare our two refutations to see how accurate I was.)

The knowledge of Biology that I have gained through high school, the first 3 weeks of University-level Biology and Anthropology, as well as my own personal research of what scientists are saying was used to create this refutations.

And now, on with it!

DISCLAIMER: I am not a professional Biologist, and many of the things I say may not be 100% accurate. However, were you to ask a professional, I can say with 99.9% certainty they would agree with me in whole or in part, and what they didn't agree with they would embellish, thus making the argument better.

The knowledge of Biology that I have gained through high school, the first 3 weeks of University-level Biology and Anthropology, as well as my own personal research of what scientists are saying was used to create these refutations. I have cited three excellent sources at the end.

And now, here we go:

1. ORIGIN OF LIFE. Why do textbooks claim that the 1953 Miller-Urey
experiment shows how life's building blocks may have formed on the early Earth
-- when conditions on the early Earth were probably nothing like those used in
the experiment, and the origin of life remains a mystery?

The Miller-Urey experiment may not have used the exact conditions, but other experiments
using different atmospheric conditions have gotten the same results.
The origin of life is not a mystery, but we are still in the process of discovering it.
Light has indeed been shed on it in meaningful ways.

2. DARWIN'S TREE OF LIFE. Why don't textbooks discuss the
"Cambrian Explosion" in which all major animal groups appear
together in the fossil record fully formed instead of branching from a common
ancestor -- thus contradicting the evolutionary tree of life?

This is an overstatement of fact. The “explosion”
is really a span of 50 million years, and in fact there ARE many “transitional”
fossils that have been discovered. Also remember that just because we don’t have a fossil
for it doesn’t mean it didn’t exist. We can show the existence of
common ancestry via rRNA and DNA.

3. HOMOLOGY. Why do textbooks define homology as similarity due to common
ancestry, then claim that it is evidence for common ancestry -- a circular
argument masquerading as scientific evidence?

Homology is NOT the only way we show common ancestry, we can show common ancestry using genetics,
as well (As mentioned above). Genetics alone can produce the evidence for common ancestry, and we
do not need to dicker with accusations of this “circular argument”, which is really only the product of
simplified textbook definitions meant for high schoolers.

4. VERTEBRATE EMBRYOS. Why do textbooks use drawings of similarities in
vertebrate embryos as evidence for their common ancestry -- even though
biologists have known for over a century that vertebrate embryos are not most
similar in their early stages, and the drawings are faked?

Because even though biologists have indeed discredited those drawings, many old textbooks that show those pictures
are still being used . In addition, although the pictures themselves are caricatures, the ideas behind
them have been corroborated by other scientists. Embryonic similarities in vertebrates do exist: For example, all
vertebrates develop a notochord, body segments, pharyngeal gill pouches, and a post-anal tail.

5. ARCHAEOPTERYX. Why do textbooks portray this fossil as the missing link
between dinosaurs and modern birds -- even though modern birds are probably not
descended from it, and its supposed ancestors do not appear until millions of
years after it?

This is one of the biggest misunderstandings, and cannot be explained fully in a simple
paragraph. See here: http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/archaeopteryx/info.html

6. PEPPERED MOTHS. Why do textbooks use pictures of peppered moths
camouflaged on tree trunks as evidence for natural selection -- when biologists
have known since the 1980s that the moths don't normally rest on tree trunks,
and all the pictures have been staged?

Because the textbooks are old, and the example (though now shown to be not as
accurate or reliable as once thought) is still a good one to show natural selection in
action. However, the better example are the Galapagos finches, and newer textbooks
(in biology as well as anthropology) do not talk about the moths.

7. DARWIN'S FINCHES. Why do textbooks claim that beak changes in
Galapagos finches during a severe drought can explain the origin of species by
natural selection -- even though the changes were reversed after the drought
ended, and no net evolution occurred?

The changes were only reversed in ONE SPECIES. In the case of
the drought, this drought affected one species living on one island, and during
the drought caused a selection for large beaks. However, once the drought ended,
the equilibrium was re-established because there is a higher natality for young finches
with large beaks. This is because the energy required to maintain a larger beak is much
higher than a normal sized beak, and many finches could not survive it. Remember that
this particular example is evidence of microevolution/natural selection, NOT speciation.

8. MUTANT FRUIT FLIES. Why do textbooks use fruit flies with an extra pair
of wings as evidence that DNA mutations can supply raw materials for evolution
-- even though the extra wings have no muscles and these disabled mutants
cannot survive outside the laboratory?

I have yet to see a textbook using this example, and if it is used, it is probably only to show the
changes that mutations can create. Mutations are not ALL bad, in fact it is a misconception that they are
such. Even in humans, a point mutation on a certain gene can cause an increase in bone density, something
that could be beneficial depending on where you lived. Examplesof positive mutations do exist, despite
what some would have us believe. Also note that mutation is not the ONLY source of diversity which causes
natural selection. The inherent genetic differences caused by chromosome-mixing (“crossing over”) in meiosis
cause individual variation (such as the beak depths in the above example).

9. HUMAN ORIGINS. Why are artists' drawings of ape-like humans used to
justify materialistic claims that we are just animals and our existence is a
mere accident -- when fossil experts cannot even agree on who our supposed
ancestors were or what they looked like?

It can be agreed on who our ancestors are! The extinct species of the genus Homo are an
important example, the most important being H. erectus. We can trace descent
farther back than that, even, to H. habilis and its ancestors, the Australopithecines.
Note this quote: "The direct evidence suggests that there was a migration of H. erectus out of Africa,
then a further speciation of H. sapiens from H. erectus in Africa. (There is little evidence
that this speciation occurred elsewhere.) Then a subsequent migration within and out of Africa eventually
replaced the earlier dispersed H. erectus. However, the current evidence doesn't preclude multiregional
speciation, either. This is a hotly debated area in paleoanthropology."

Note that it is not WHO our ancestor is, but WHERE they came from that is debated.

10. EVOLUTION A FACT? Why are we told that Darwin's theory of evolution is a
scientific fact -- even though many of its claims are based on misrepresentations
of the facts?

What does this even mean? Which claims are misrepresentations of facts? If you mean the ones above, then
I think it has been shown that it is the Creationists who are using misrepresented facts.

Oh, the irony.

All creationists who don’t believe that there is real evidence for evolution and the origin of life need to look
at the following links:

Evidence for Evolution: http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/comdesc/
(lots of good info here)

Creationist Claims Refuted: http://www.talkorigins.org/indexcc/
(this is an excellent resource)

Evolution of Homo sapiens: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution_of_Homo_sapiens
(obviously wikipedia is NOT a scientific source that could be used to justify things in a real paper, but the article is well supported by the references and external links.)

My Personal Worldview:

My view is that neither science, philosophy, religion, theology, or really any field of human endeavour can give us a 100% accurate picture of what goes on in the world. I see it like two-dimensional men looking at a three-dimensional object (Gildenlow, 2005). However, I believe that some of those men are wearing better glasses, and thus can see the object just a little more clearly. They still may be completely wrong in the third dimension, but in their dimension, they are more right than the others.

Judging by what I am defending, I'm sure you can guess who I think have the better glasses.

Brandon Eric Beasley
September 25, 2005

This may be freely distributed, as long as my name and all information (from the disclaimer to this notice) remains intact

Please comment and let me know what you think.

Insert Appropriate Song Lyrics Here...

Well, I have to work today at 4:30 instead of 6:30, they called me in early. Yay.

Not.

Oh well. Hopefully I can find something interesting/fun to do until then. But probably not.

The book I'm reading is really, really good. I really should be reading the book I'm supposed to have done for English, but it sucks compared to my other book. So it can wait.

I feel so....wierd. I don't know, I can't explain it. Maybe I need to go have a bash at my drums or something. Maybe that'll help.

Christmas is soon! This excites me. I always like Christmas. Except, I have to work on Boxing Day, from 9-530. Ack.

Oh yeah, you Americans don't know what Boxing Day is, do you? It's our name (and the Brits, too) for the day after Christmas. Big sales, etc. The shops and malls are very crowded. The name comes from something that old English lords used to do. On the day after Christmas, they'd take some of the stuff that they didn't want/need, and box it up, and give it to their staff. Or something like that.

Either way, it's going to be pretty damn crazy. But, I work with Kayla, so that's cool. I also work with Kayla on the 27th, too.

I also volunteered to work on New Years Day. From 12-8. Fun eh? :P

Anyway, I've got nothing else. Perhaps I'll post more later before I go.

Cheers.

The Slings and Arrows...

1. What did you do in 2003 that you'd never done before?
Got a real job.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't do resolutions, lol.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No, I don't think so.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No

5. What countries did you visit?
The United States

6. What would you like to have in 2004 that you lacked in 2003?
A girlfriend.

7. What date from 2003 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I don't think there is a day that will have that much impact on me from this year.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting a job....finally getting an above 90% average in school.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Being completely unsuccessful in my attempts with girls. How many? 3? 4? Yeah. Too many.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Ha. The anxiety continues.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My drum set.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
.....uh...dunno.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Meh, none, really.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Drum set.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Well, several things. Girls for one (which ultimately lead to dissapointment), but, my drum set, pretty much.

16. What song will always remind you of 2003?
A couple - "Bravado" - Rush, and "A Change of Seasons" - Dream Theater

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? A little happier, but more sad in different ways.
ii. thinner or fatter? Thinner, I lost weight becuase of the whole anxiety thing.
iii. richer or poorer? Richer - yay job!

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Everything...

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Failed with girls.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
With the family.

22. Did you fall in love in 2003?
Real love? No. Imagined love? Yes.

23. How many one-night stands?
Hah, none.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
ER, CSI: Miami

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Yeah, I guess

26. What was the best book you read?
Well, Hamlet. It's not really a book, but I'll just say that it is. :P

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Dream Theater, and numerous other Prog bands, thanks to 'ASD' and Richard Z.

28. What did you want and get?
A Drum set (hmm..I'm seeing a trend here, lol)

29. What did you want and not get?
A girl.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
I can't pick.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Nothing too excited - 16.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
A girl.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003?
The same as always

34. What kept you sane?
Music, m'online friends.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Maura, and more recently, Amy Lee and Parminder Nagra

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
A few. The 'war', as well as the gay marriage thing.

37. Who did you miss?
No one.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
I'm not going to name one, so I'll name a few: Helen, Melly, Grace, Kori (well, I knew her before, but not as well as I do now) - my fab four, as it were...lol.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2003:
Too many. Don't get hung up on things. Be more laid back. Love life, love love. I try. Sometimes I fail. Most times I fail. But all in all, life is good - at least when I'm not depressed.

Hmmm...I don't have much else of substance to say yet. More to come later in the day.

Cheers.

Now It Has Been Foretold...

Well, I am in love with my drums! :)

Except my arms and hands are sore. Oh well, it's all worth it!

But, besides the drums, I'm really quite bored, as usual. And when I get bored, my mind tends to think about stuff that it shouldn't be thinking about, and I start to get depressed. So, quick, someone make me un-bored! Quickly!

Um, yeah.

The library called yesterday and said that the book I put on hold is waiting for me. So I'm going to go pick it up today or tommorow. I'm really looking forward to reading it. It's called To Your Scattered Bodies Go..., by Phillip Jose Farmer. It's the first book in the Riverwold series. My dad recommended it to, and it sounds really cool, so I'm going to give it a read.

Except that I have to read this book for English, The Poisonwood Bible. And I really don't want to. But, I haven't even started it yet, so who knows. It could be interesting.

SO much homework. And so little motivation to do it. Oh well.

Maybe I'll have a shower. That should alleviate my boredom for about 20 minutes. But then I'll need something else to distract me. So, someone come on AIM. Please? Please?

Thank you. :)

Cheers.

Sparks Fly...

WASHINGTON (AP) - After winning concessions from Libya, President Bush urged other nations to recognize that the pursuit of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons brings not influence or prestige, but "isolation and otherwise unwelcome consequences."

Hmm..and WHO has the worlds largest nuclear arsenal? Fucking hipocrites.

Okay, enough political bullshit.

I was feeling pretty down in my last entry (as some of you so brilliantly deduced), and in fact, I was. I was also really tired, becuase after I posted that I went and slept for 2 hours, lol. Then my family and I went on a drive to look at Christmas lights and stuff...and by that I mean lights on people's houses, all over the city. 'Tis fun, and 'tis a tradition.

You know what I hate? Being dissapointed. Yet I let myself feel that way all too often.

Like this afternoon. It was the main cause of my "down-ness".

I just watched Bruce Almighty with the fam. Friggin HILARIOUS movie. See it, now, if you haven't already. 'Tis good stuff.

I have so much homework to do over the break...argh. I have to read a novel, memorize a soliloquy from Hamlet, and do the Act 2, 3 AND 4 assignments. Fun.

Now that I've read/heard Hamlet, I want to see a real play verison of it at a theatre. NOW, dammit.

Um, yeah. Not a whole hell of a lot more to say.

DRUM SET TOMMOROW! WOOOOOOOOO!

If I had a digital camera I'd take a picture to show you all when I get it...but I don't. But this picture is pretty much what it will be:

That's her, except I'm getting 2 more cymbals...

SO excited.

Cheers.

Reminders Of the Time We Can't Regain....

I love my first period spare on Thursdays. And I'm going to really miss it when it's gone next semester...:(

Last night at work was okay, I suppose. I met ANOTHER Sarah, though..lol. She works in Electronics. So, from now on, she will be refered to as electronics!Sarah, or e!Sarah if I'm feeling lazy, lol. s!Sara was working too, and we talked for a bit, but not for very long. We have a nice rapport now, but I don't think anything more will come of it anytime soon.

However, I enjoyed some very excellent banter with e!Sarah, which was pretty cool for just meeting her.

I also talked with Amy, who is really funny, and very nice.

This all goes to show how much I've changed over the past year. Time was that I'd have NEVER have made friends so easily, especially girls...but in this case, they're all girls, lol. Yay me.

I'm waiting for Helen to come on AIM, and thus I am very bored. But, I really don't have a whole hell of a lot more to say right now, so....yeah.

Cheers.

To the Barren Lands....

Just finished the 'Bachelor of the Month' interview thing with Jen. It was okay, I guess, but things like that always never represent me properly. To know me, you have to talk to me.

But, whatever, it's all in good fun.

School is horrible. I hate it. I'm staring at my half-done Act 2 assignment, and I'm still getting no where. And I have to shoot an entire movie in Commtech. Then I have the rest of the week to edit it - and then 2 more modules to do in 2 weeks. Yay. Not fun. I hate being rushed.

Well, here I am, on my spare - on the computer. I love being lame.

I plan on writing The Story of Brandon's Life this weekend, so look forward to that.

I'm serious. Be excited. Yes.

Anyway, I'm done, becuase trying to talk to Chelsea and type this at the same time is annoying her.

Cheers.

Live to Fly...

Do you believe in Jesus?: What do you mean "believe"? Do I believe he existed: Yes. do I believe he was the son of God? No.
Have you got your Christmas tree up?: Yes.
What does it look like?: It's tall, (like, 7, 7.5 feet). Lots of lights, ornaments and such, with a multi-pointed star on top.
What is your favorite part of it?: Just the tree in general is beutiful.
Do you have an advent calendar? Yeah, 2....lol
Do you like the nativity story?: It's a charming little story, I suppose. But I'm not a huge fan.
What are you expecting under the tree?: CD's, Guitar stuff, DVDs....yeah.
Who are you getting presents for?: Mom, Dad, Elan, Eric, Kayla (well, for her it's her Birthday and Christmas present all in one, lol)
Did you believe in Santa when you were younger?: Yep! But I figured it out when I was in grade 4, I think.
Did you leave him mince pies and sherry? lol...The person who wrote this must be English, or something, lol. Nope, cookies and milk. And sometimes carrots for the reindeer.
Where are you going for Christmas?: Well, I'll be at home until about 1-ish, then it's off to my Aunt's house for the family get-together and dinner and more presents.
Who are you sharing it with?: Mom, Dad, Sister, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, and Granny & Grandad.
Are you going to dress up?: What do you mean?
Any Christmas parties?: No...I suck..
Are you going to go to church?: I'm not the church-going type.
What is your favorite Christmas movie?: The original, black and white Miracle on 34th street. And that claymation type Rudolph movie...and of course, A Christmas Carol. Either the old one, or the new version with Patrick Stewart.
Who do you want to unwrap this year?: Ha, I wish.
What have you bought for someone that you want?: ....nothing?
Do you have a turkey for Christmas?: Yes
Do you watch the Queens Speech?: No.
Ever kissed anyone under mistletoe?: No. Again, I wish. Yes, I am that lonely and desperate.
Red or Green?: Red
Have you Christmas-ified your bedroom?: Not really, no.

Today was a really boring day. I had a double spare, and nothing worthwhile at all to do. So, I basically did nothing. Yay exciting me.

However, Jen asked me if I wanted to be featured as part of the "Bachelor and Bachelorette of the Month" column in the school paper...so I said sure. Why not? It should be fun, if I don't make an ass out of myself, lol. The guys in it always try to be stupid and funny, but I think I might end that tradition by being mostly serious and witty. But then, that doesn't make for interesting reading, does it? Oh well.

Today, my fucking bus was about 40 minutes late coming home from school. How the hell can you be THAT late? All the other buses got there on time. There was only a handful of us left anyway, but it was better than taking the train and stuff.

So, FINALLY, I will be getting my drum set on Saturday. After a 2 week delay, the dream will finally be realized. Damn delays. In all seriousness, I'm so excited. Well, I have been for two weeks, but still - the excitement continues.

Today in English we finished Hamlet, and let me tell you I have never seen a class so dumbstruck. None of us really knew what to say...I don't think we could really believe that it was over....What a great play, though. The best, by far.

In other news, I'm not feeling as messed up or confused as I was in my last entry. That has all been taken care of, and I am now focused.

Except for the fact that I am WAY behind in English assignments, I have a movie to shoot, and edit in CommTech, and I have a Chem exam tommorow that I'm not 100% studied for. Damn school.

Well, I best get working on all that.

Cheers.

The Words Stuck in My Mind...

Well hello.

Today was an interesting day. I worked from 10-530, with Melissa, and that was good, if boring.

However, the real interesting part begins with my first 15 minute break, during which I ended up talking to s!Sara again. And again, on my lunch break, when I ran into her again, and we ate lunch together - again.

What a temptress. I swear, she does it just to taunt me.

Okay, not really, but still. It kills me inside to have to sit there, and talk to this beautiful girl, knowing that I won't have the chance to date her or be anything more to her than "that nice guy at work that I talk to and sometimes eat with".

Then again, I mean...I have thought about my reasons for my feelings for her. And I think they are purely physical. My emtional feelings for her are displaced, a reflection of my feelings for someone else.

However, since any relationship with that someone else is impossible at this point, my feelings get focused on attractive, nice girls.

Why can't this be simpler?

Seriously, not to be egotistic or anything, but WHY would she say no to me? I don't think I'm a bad guy....so either she's a lesbian, or she really doesn't want a relationship.

But I doubt that. Who actually SAYS that, without it being a cover for something else?

What do you think guys, should I talk to her about this? Or am I wasting my time?

Or should I just suck it up, and wait until things with "that other someone" is possible.

But that's unfair to me, and more importantly, to her. And to s!Sara, if I were to ever date her. Becuase I know my feelings for her right now aren't for her. At least I don't think so. They are my displaced feelings for someone else.

Ack, this is confusing.

Some help, please?

Cheers.

Advice, Help? HELP ME DAMMIT!

Cheers.

And the Storm Blows Up in Her Eyes...

first friend to add: uh...might have been either Melly or Heather or Mary...or all three...?
last friend to add: maroonsheets
favorite friend: ha, right. like I'd pick.
least favorite: ha, right.
friend who's good at sports: Well, Melly is good at soccer, and Mary is good at swimming..so...them?
friend who is bilingual: um...I don't even know, lol. *dumbass*
friend who lives in another country: Helen, and most others are from the US, or here in Canada
youngest friend: Melly.
oldest friend: *thinks* hmm..Murph, or maybe Aims...
cutest friend: they're all cute! Those that I've seen pics of anyway.
ugliest friend: Me :p
nicest friend: They all are. But I'll just choose the two I'm currently the closest with: Helen, and Melly.
rudest friend: hehe..Melly swears a lot....:p.. but so do I, so...
friend that you're most like: Hm....Helen and I are alot alike, I suppose, but with the gender difference it's hard to say.
have you talked to the phone on any of them?: No, unfortunately...:(
met any?: Not yet..:( But I hope to.
want to meet any?: all of them! But Melly and Helen and Grace and Kori for sure.
who do you think will copy this survey?: no one, becuase no one will read or it, or even care..:P

Well, work was very, slow. Excrusiatingly slow.

Damn, I can't spell.

Well, I met a new work!friend: Amy. She's cool. She works at Layaway, and sometimes at the Courtesy Desk, and I've seen her alot but only started talking to her recently. She's a year older than I am, and very nice.

I was trying to figure out today why all the people I seem to talk to lately are girls, and I figured it out - it's becuase most girls around my age are way more mature than most guys my age. It's a revelation!

Well, not really. I kinda knew that already, but it was good to actually, fully realize it.

Well, my department was clean, and SO boring, that I was in Seasonal with original!Sarah for a while, helping Amy in Layaway for a while, and just generally walking around.

I'm getting some vibes from o!Sarah, and I have been for a while. Maybe it's just me, or maybe it's just the fact that we're better friends now, I don't know.

My goodness, s!Sara looked SO damn hot today...I had to restrain myself from jumping all over her, lol....Seriously.

Except, what pisses me off is that sometimes I think she's flirting with me, and I go "What the fuck? You turned me down, why are you bothering?" Or maybe it's just me mis-reading things again. Who knows?

Either way, I don't care anymore. As I've said, I've decided to not even try when it comes to girls. It's not worth it.

At least, not right now, and not right here. And not this way.

But that's another story, for another day, and another time.

I'll be up at around 8ish, my time, tommorow morning....if anyone is around, please, PLEASE come online so I'm not bored before I go to work. Thanks. :)

I'll post before I leave.

Cheers.

Can You See What I'm Feeling?...

Stupid fucking excite.com isn't working properly - which means I can't check my email. ARGH!

Plus, Helen never came on today, and we didn't get a chance to talk. That makes me kinda sad.

I have to work at 6:30.

This isn't the greatest night ever.

HOWEVER

Now that I have your attention back, I can tell you that I just made another journal. I made it for all my creative stuff, like songs, music, lyrics and stuff like that. Head on over to beaconhill to check it out. It's friends only, so just comment and I'll add you - I don't want people I don't know stealing my hard work!

Do it. Now.

Anyway, that's about all I have. Sorry I didn't post before work last night, but I didn't have time. There's really nothing new to talk about anyway.

I work tommorow at 10am, so I'll be on before I leave (7:30, 8-ish, until I leave), if any of you are going to be around then.

More later.

Cheers.

Stolen from Helen.

Survey rules:
1. Copy this whole list into your journal.
2. Bold the things that you have in common with me.
3. Whatever you don't bold, replace with things about you.

01. I'm in High School
02. I spend 50% of my time playing guitar
03. Rush is my favourite band
04. I procrastinate.
05. I procrastinate a lot.
06. My favourite thing to do is play/listen to music
07. I'm a survey whore.
08. I like the winter.
09. I have one sister.
10. I dislike Harry Potter & Lord Of The Rings.
11. I hate hypocrites.
12. I like the color purple. - but only dark purple
13. I hate homework.
14. I wish I had glasses - even fake ones. I love them.
15. My hair looks much better when it's short
16. Trouser wise, I wear almost nothing but jeans.
17. I wish I could fly more often.
18. I am addicted to 'shipping.
19. I'm glad I live in Canada
20. I like getting things in the mail. [as long as they aren't bills]
21. I can't stand compulsive liars.
22. I don't like country music.
23. I love a good instrumental song.
24. I love LJ.
25. I use AIM.
26. I dislike shopping for clothes.
27. I love hearing new kinds of (good) music.
28. I have AIM.
29. I can't drive.
30. I wish I was happily married.
31. I am wishing for a white Xmas..
32. I stay up too late.
33. Pompous people annoy me.
34. I prefer pens that don't smear.
35. I'm not a vegitarian.
36. I want to know how to play the piano - well.
37. I took French in school
38. I'm not religious.
39. I have no life.
40. I like, and yet dilike Christmas as the same time.
41. I really enjoy gifts.
42. I want my drum set...
43. I like broccoli.
44. I am addicted to water (lol)
45. Most people address me by my first name.
46. I sometimes dye the tips of my hair blonde.
47. I have made webpages before.
48. I wish I was British, if only for the accent.
49. I love love.
50. I love making music
51. My computer desk is messy.
52. I like candles.
53. I hate school.
54. I can't eat many dessert foods because they're too rich. (but the ones that I can I do!)
55. I can be antisocial.
56. I can be very quiet.
57. I'm spoiler-free.
58. I like most kinds of music. (except rap, hip-hop, country, and some pop)
59. I try not to bite my nails.
60. Spyware can go to hell.
61. I want to activate my cell phone
62. I need more water, my cup is empty.
63. I enjoy watching movies.
64. I'm very, very bored
65. I hate difficult math.
66. I like to receive gifts
67. I am not a morning person.
68. I am a night person.
69. I have no pets.
70. I love Maura Tierney.
71. I hate when I don't know what I'm supposed to do.
72. I like being alone but I like people around too.
73. I'm online when I'm bored.
74. I wish I traveled more.
75. I have a lot of CDs.
76. I hate waking up in the morning.
77. My mom says I'm really smart.
78. I get annoyed when people leave me in the dark.
79. I used to be afraid of calling places.
80. I have a cell phone, but it's not activated yet.
81. I have a lot of mp3s. - but I'm reducing, and I don't download much anymore at all - I'm against it, really.
82. I use broadband.
83. I like writing but <strike>can't do it well at all.</strike> should do it more often
84. I don't have a university degree.
85. I don't like people who are narrow-minded.
86. I like cats.
87. Middle-Eastern music appeals to me.
88. I like the smell of hot applesauce.
89. I'm on the computer WAY too much.
90. I <strike>wasn't</strike>was born in Canada.
91. I sort of understand physics.
92. I like anything cinimon flavoured.
93. I love taking pictures.
94. I'm an Aries
95. My Palm Pilot's battery is charging.
96. I say shit a lot. (and fuck, and damn..lol)
97. I like easy classes. - but challenging ones too.
98. I like MSN.
99. Creed annoys me.
100. I enjoyed filling out this thing.

A real update will come before work.

Cheers.

Every Time I Close My Eyes...

John Wells can just go and die.

No wonder Orman left. I don't blame him.

However, I still love this show. Why? I don't know. I guess I just always will, no matter what.

Yeah. Carter can go to hell though. So can Kem. And Wells.

I did like the "Is she blond?" joke for all of us internet fans though. That was clever.

So, they tell me that the play was fantastic. Oh well, I don't really care. I've stopped caring, really. I missed out - so what? It's not the end of the world.

I work today at 4:30...which is okay, becuase it'll give me something to do. Before that I'll just be relaxing at home, so...yeah.

The only Christmas Carol that I can stand is "Carol of the Bells". You know this one, right? If you don't recognize the name, don't worry - you've heard it. Everyone has. Download, you'll see.

It's the only one I can stand because all the rest of them are so....old. And cliche. And I've heard them a thousand times. Plus, at work, I hear the ALL day, and they pound themselves into my brain. Way to ruin Christmas music for me, Wal-Mart. I never want to here "The 12 Days of Christmas" ever again. EVER.

So, becuase I like "Carol of the Bells" so much, I'm going to record my own version, using guitar and keyboard. I was inspired by the version done by The Trans Siberian Orchestra. Get their version to see what I mean - it's brilliant. Plus, it's fun to play, so I should have a good time.

Look for that in the near future.

I'm on a spare right now, but I have CommTech next, so I'll still be around and checking my email often, so don't hesiste to comment or email me, if anyone is around.

Cheers.

Why Are We Here? - Damned if I know, Mr. Peart...

I was supposed to go to my school's theatre production of The Elephant Man with Geoff and Eric and Anneka, but now I don't feel like going. So I'm not.

It's as simple as that really. I was looking forward to it, but now I'm not. So I'm not going.

Yay for WANTING to have no life.

I always seem to choose the option that takes me the least "social" route. I mean, obviously I could still choose to go, but I don't want to - I'm not feeling it. And my feelings are what I go by.

In other news, school was damn broing today. I fucking hate days like this. The only intersting part was talking to Dustin about philosphical stuff and the meaing of life and choice, chance, and fate and all that. That was cool.

Talked to Helen this morning, as has become the usual for Thursdays. Damn, it's going to suck next semester without my spare....:(

Okay, messages:

Mel - If you feel like getting your mind off stuff, do you want to email me back about what I asked you?
Helen - Hopefully I'll talk to you tommorow (or Today, since your probably reading this on Friday). The hour this morning just flew by.
Grace - Will you be on AIM tonight? You know you want to!
Kori - Same question! Where have you been?

Random stuff:

I'm excited/apprehensieve for ER
I hate school days like today
Found some ER-loving people in Chem class today, except one of them is a Luby - EVIL!
Dustin and I have great conversations
Some people are pissing me off, alot, more and more every day
When I thought I got a wieght of my shoulders - I didn't. Now new questions have popped up.
Why can't things be a little different? Just a little?
Will things turn out okay? The way I want them too?
What if I don't accomplish anything before I duie
What if I don't spend someone to spend the rest of my life with
What if I'm lonely forever?
What?
Who?
Where?
When?
Why?

Cheers.

Come and See the Show...

Well, it's been a while since I've posted. Why, you ask? Well, simply becuase nothing exciting has been going on.

Frankly, nothing feels worthy of being written about. I'm behind (again) on stuff in school that I'm just not doing. This assignment on Act 2 of Hamelt, and this Chemistry lab. And I should be doing them right now - but I'm not.

What does that say about me? Not much...:(

Well, here is the rest of the week outlined:

Tommorow (Wednesday): It's a meh day, nothing special. Then I work at 4:30. Yay. Not.
Thursday: I love Thursdays, for a couple of reasons. One, I have my spare first period, which means I get to stay home and talk to Helen and relax. Plus, I always enjoy going in late, becuase I have to take the regular bus, and the C-Train (our name for our inner-city light rail transit system) and I feel so....independant, and I love it. Plus, it's ERsday!
Friday: I work at 4:30, but before that I have the afternoon off (as always) so I'm going to kick back, and relax, and maybe Helen and some other people will be around for me to talk to again.
Saturday: Getting my drum set! Yeah! This is very exciting. But it is somewhat tempered by the fact that I have to work at 6:30....oh well, I'll live.
Sunday: I work during the day, so...yeah. Not such a fantastic day, really.

So, after tommorow the week improves...but then with Sunday goes downhill again. However, Christmas break starts December 19th! :) That is very exciting, for sure.

Somedays I just wish I was somewhere else, doing something different, with different people and a lovely girl.

Like today. That's all I could think about today.

There are some people who are good (Eric, Kayla, Lara and some random people in some of my classes who are good) and that's about it. Everyone else can just go to hell, or at least that's how I felt today. I just want to be somewhere different....or at least WITH someone different - or someone at all.

I know I said I was going to give up on girls, but it's not going to be as easy as it sounds. I have this crazy idea in my head that I can't let go of...

Yeah.

Anyway, that's all I feel like typing for now. Sorry for my absence, I promise to not let it happen again - for my own sanity, as well as your reading pleasure.

PS - I know I'm leaving it to the last minute, but does anyone want a Christmas card from me? If so, email your address to b-beasley@excite.com.

Cheers.

Calgary, Alberta, Canada

What do you call ...
1. a body of water, smaller than a river, contained within relatively narrow banks? Stream
2. the thing you push around the grocery store? Cart
3. a metal container to carry a meal in? Lunchbox
4. the thing that you cook bacon and eggs in? Frying pan
5. the piece of furniture that seats three people? Couch or Sofa (I interchange both, usually couch). My grandma says Chesterfield - now that is cool!
6. the device on the outside of the house that carries rain off the roof? Gutter
7. the covered area outside a house where people sit in the evening? Porch
8. carbonated, sweetened, non-alcoholic beverages? Pop.
9. a flat, round breakfast food served with syrup? Pancake
10. a long sandwich designed to be a whole meal in itself? You mean a sub?
11. the piece of clothing worn by men at the beach? Swimming trunks
12. shoes worn for sports? Running Shoes.
13. putting a room in order? Tidying up/Cleaning up
14. a flying insect that glows in the dark? Firefly, but we don't have many.
15. the little insect that curls up into a ball? What?
16. the children's playground equipment where one kid sits on one side and goes up while the other sits on the other side and goes down? See-saw
17. how do you eat your pizza? From pointy end to crust, with my hands.
18. the act of private citizens putting up signs and selling their used stuff? Garage Sale, Yard Sale
19. the evening meal? Dinner/Supper
20. the thing under a house where the furnace and perhaps a rec room are? Basement.

I have to go to work.
A Jewel Out of Reach...

THREE THINGS I AM WEARING RIGHT NOW
1. my grey pajama pants
2. black shirt
3. white socks.

THREE THINGS ON MY DESK
1. glass of water
2. a whole lot of CD's
3. My Rush book, "Merely Players"

THREE THINGS I WANT TO DO BEFORE I DIE
1. Fall in love
2. See the world
3. Record an album, go on tour

THREE GOOD WAYS TO DESCRIBE MY PERSONALITY
1. Caring
2. Witty/Funny
3. Smart

THREE BAD THINGS ABOUT MY PERSONALITY
1. Can be bossy
2. Very emotional
3. Pessimistic

THREE PARTS OF MY HERITAGE
1. English
2. Scottish
3. Irish

THREE THINGS I LIKE ABOUT MY BODY
1. The fact that I'm not overweight
2. My....hair?
3. My eyes, I guess.

THREE THINGS I DON'T LIKE ABOUT MY BODY
1. My eyeborws are WAY to big
2. My lips are too big. Seriously.
3. I hate my smile

THREE THINGS MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ABOUT ME
1. I'm a hopeless romantic.
2. Most people don't know me or see me the right way at all. They see me as a pretentious, holier-than-thou geek who does nothing but go on the computer, study, and listen to Rush. Those that know me as a musician know me a little better, but stiil.
3. I think that was answered above.

THREE THINGS I SAY THE MOST
1. I often quote Shakespeare lines or Rush lyrics that fit the moment.
2. Cheers. (when saying Goodbye)
3. Indeed.

THREE PLACES I WANT TO GO
1. England (Helen!)
2. Ottawa (Melly!)
3. Everywhere in Europe.

THREE NAMES THAT I GO BY
1. Brandon
2. Beasley
3. BB (Or B Squared)

THREE SCREEN NAMES I HAVE HAD
1. enigma00
2. Red_Tide9
3. b-beasley

(I still have all those, in various places)

Well, I thought that things between Sara and I would be wierd, but it's not. She's still nice to me, and I to her. But it's not going anywhere.
Sarah and I always get along well. Any awkwardness that came out of what happened between us is now gone.
Alysa is really nice.
Nadine likes me, I'm sure of it. But I'm not sure that I feel the same way about her. Actually, I don't. Which sucks for her....eeek. I feel bad.

Uh...yeah.

So, I was thinking today...and I devised a plan wherein I could go to England this summer, instead of having to wait until I graduate. That way, when I do graduate, I can concentrate more on other parts of Europe, and not just England (which is a major place I want to go). I'd only be able to go for 3 or 4 days, but it would be great. The only sticking point is getting my parents to agree to let me go. I mean, if they're going to let me travel Europe at 18, why not England at 17? Right?

Well, we'll see. I know they are going to be very anal about this, so I'll have to plan out every last detail. So, who knows.

But wouldn't that be amazing? It would make my life 10000000000000000000000000x better.

Enough for tonight. Until Tommorow.

Cheers.

In Silence...

I've sound some really cool Prog bands of late. Yay for prog rock.

take the antisocial test.

and go to mewing.net. because laura's feeling social.

Makes sense.

I am the sonnet, never quickly thrilled;
Not prone to overstated gushing praise
Nor yet to seething rants and anger, filled
With overstretched opinions to rephrase;
But on the other hand, not fond of fools,
And thus, not fond of people, on the whole;
And holding to the sound and useful rules,
Not those that seek unjustified control.
I'm balanced, measured, sensible (at least,
I think I am, and usually I'm right);
And when more ostentatious types have ceased,
I'm still around, and doing, still, alright.
In short, I'm calm and rational and stable -
Or, well, I am, as much as I am able.

What Poetry Form Are You?

Haha...I dunno, about that, but close enough. I like sonnets.

To be, or not to be?

What is Your Shakespearian Tragic Flaw?
brought to you by Quizilla

Haha! I'm Hamlet..."To be, or not to be...". I suppose it is somewhat true.

France

?? Riiiight. The things it says make sense, but not the country, lol. I have nothing against the French - I'd just never live there. Vive le Canada!

Are you Addicted to the Internet?

55%

Average@Internet-User.com (41% - 60%)
You seem to have a healthy balance in your life when it comes to the internet and life away from the computer. You know enough to do what you want online without looking like an idiot (most of the time). You even have your own Yahoo club or online journal! But you enjoy seeing your friends and going out to enjoy life away from your computer.

The Are you Addicted to the Internet? Quiz at Quiz Me!

That may be a little too low.....lol.

Well, Kayla and I weren't able to meet for coffee today. :( It's too bad, really. I was looking forward to it. Oh well, I'll survive.

Except NO ONE is online today. What's up with that? Did you people all suddenly find lives or something? :P

I wish I had something of substance to say, but I really don't. Sorry.

I hvae to work at 4:30, so until then, I'll be hanging out doing nothing.

Cheers.

Like An Iron Fist in a Velvet Glove...

I like this one a little better than some of the others.

Well, not alot happened today. I went to school - it sucked, for the most part. I got home, and then I talked to Helen for a while (which made things better). Then I went to Wal-Mart with my mom, bought some pants, talked to Kayla about meeting up tommorow...and now I'm here, lazy and wasting my life away again.

Great day, eh?

Well, parts of it were.

I want Christmas Break to be NOW....I want to be finished high school NOW...

I want alot of things now, lol.

I really don't have anything meaningful to say.

Oh, ER: I like Sam/Luka. I LOVE Neela. She's my new favourite, after Abby. Abby was great in this ep too. Major mother!Abby anvil though, with that kid. And what was up with that 52%? My ass. Drunk!Neela was hilarious. Parminder Nagra is really cute, I just noticed that last night. Maura is 2nd in the credits - this can only mean good things.

Anyway, enough for now.

Cheers.
